Classic Macintosh

I got this old classic Macintosh SE/30 some time ago and it cost only 5€ to me.
It came with it's original memory of 1 mb RAM, but recently I replaced upgraded it with 4 mb to 5mb.
There is no HDD currently in this setup, but I can deal with it.

The Nokia Communicator

Oh... Those were the times of innovative technology. I always wanted one of those. Particulary one of those earlier Nokia Communicator models, like 9110 or 9110i.

Recently I got one. The Nokia 9210 Communicator.

Nokia 9210 is so 2000 (Edit: or 1999) -even it was actually released at 2001. A cool gadget back in the day; Cell phone meets Pocket PC -Unfortunately it has little or no use today...

But there is one thing you can still do with 9210: THE TEXT ADVENTURES!
I downloaded Z-machine interpreter for Nokia Series 80 phones. And here we go; Now I am able to play all classic Interactive fiction adventures with real keyboard; And I don't have to sit in front of computer screen.

It would be interesting to get it back to internet, but that would take much more effort than playing simple text adventures...

BTW. It also plays Nethack!

So...
Get Lamp!

Poor man's eBook reader

Recycling old Palm-PDA devices as ebook readers.

I have couple of old Palm Os based PDA devices: Handspring Visor and Hand Era 330; Both of these are suitable eBook readers.

+Quite long lasting battery
+Can be used in daylight with no backlight
+Better than color display if you read lots of text-only books

-If you are in to comics; then buy iPad or Android tablet
-Nothing can beat good e-ink based eBook reader (really it's like paper)
-Usually have to convert your own books

Compaq Contura Aero 4/25

Here's myt take on low-end hacking:
http://wind-up.tumblr.com/post/5242315244/nerdcore-compaq-contura-aero-4-25-laptop-with-b-w

I was able to install windows 95 to that crappy old Compaq Aero 4/25 subnotebook from 1994... Aero is 486 machine, but without any coprocessor in it. So even it was running win95. It was not able to handle many win32 programs...
Still... It was interesting test.

Watching youtube

If the low-end machine can't handle modern flash player and streaming video, you can always try mobile version of Youtube with Realplayer or compatible software (as instructed on this link).
Or you can can download and convert youtube videos using Tubidy intenret service.

Usually I download videos via tubidy and watch them with VLC palyer...

EDIT: Currently Youtube mobile version uses mp4 and 3gpp video formats, so you don't need any conversion site or program, just download, and use VLC
